Texas Tech pulled the plug from Lubbock's only alternative and now KTXT student DJ's are fighting to keep their music community alive. 88.1 KTXT went off the air Wednesday after 47 years of broadcasts. The university says it couldn't afford to fund the FM station any longer. Students claim they were never warned by the university or given a chance to say goodbye on-air.
"It meant everything to us. And to have this taken away, you just feel robbed," says student DJ Patrick Thompson.
Tech wants to use the KTXT space and equipment for web streaming and other broadcast opportunities.
