A small explosion in Central Lubbock is under investigation by police.

Someone called police around 3-30 this afternoon after hearing what they thought were gunshots near 25th and University. Police arrived on the scene to find a fire burning in the alley.

Officials say it was a small explosive device, neighbors tell us it was a homemade pipe bomb.

Folks who heard the initial bang say it shook them up, and they want to know why this happened.

Sadie Armistead, called 911: "We jumped up, ran outside, I mean I actually thought it was a gun.

Lindsey Elliott, nearby neighbor: "I'm a nervous wreck! This stuff doesn't happen to people, I didn't think.

Police are still investigating this incident, and we'll of course keep you updated on any new developments.
