Holiday Domestic Abuse

The holiday season can be a stressful time for many families, so it's no wonder domestic violence rises during the holidays as family and financial pressure peaks.
Roy Rios with Women's Protective Services says the struggling economy is making holiday stress even worse this year.
He says WPS is helping 120 families this holiday season, up from just 60 during the year.
Rios says more folks have time off and tend to drink alcohol around the holidays, increasing domestic problems.
"One of the biggest things we see are really manipulative tactics, abusers using Christmas gifts and Christmas decorations as ploys to keep their victims at home where they want them," Rios says.
WPS will be open throughout this holiday season.
Their hotline is 747-6491.
