New Cigarettes In Texas

Cigarettes are looking a little different this new year, that's because Texas law now requires all smokes sold in the state to be fire safe. The new ones are double-wrapped with paper that burns slowly and can extinguish itself if it isn't smoked continuously. There have been complaints that the cigarette will burn out before you can even finish smoking it, but the whole point of the wrapping is to prevent fires when the cigarettes are left unattended. The cost remains the same, the only difference is in the manufacturing of the cigarette.
"It makes it a little more difficult to keep it going if you don't constantly drag off of it, it does extinguish. But that's part of the reason they brought in the FS product to help it extinguish because of all the fires and just little fire hazards in general," says Nothin' Butt Smokes employee Michele Casanova.
Smoke shops in Texas have until 2010 to sell all cigarettes in stock that do not have the FSC (fire standard compliant) label.
