President Elect Barack Obama is hitting the ground running as he nears his inaugeration.

In his first major speech since the election, Mr. Obama talked about the failing economy today, saying his spending proposal is an urgent necessity to turn things around.

The president-elect's major focuses will include promoting 'greener' energy, which is something that could help our local economy.

Craig Goodman, TT Asst Professor, Political Science: "West Texas is well-situated between wind power, solar power, we've got some ethanol plants out here in west texas now, to try and move those things forward. "The commitment to greater spending on alternative energies will be beneficial for companies and researches, here in Lubbock and West Texas."

Goodman says Obama's speech today was an ambitious attempt to try and earn the nation's trust when it comes to rebuilding the economy.
