Scam artists claiming to work for local court systems are scamming people out of money.

According to David Slayton fo the Lubbock County Court System, people posing as jury pool workers are calling people and telling them they missed jury duty and are facing a fine.

The victims then give up their social security and credit card numbers to in a panic to pay a fine to avoid being in trouble.

Slayton said the thing to remember is that the courts don't contact people via the phone.

"We do send out notifications through the mail through a letter," said Slayton. "The only way you will get a court employee on the phone is if you call yourself."

No victims have turned up in Lubbock yet, but several people have been hit in Texas and Oklahoma.
