The 34th Street Association is calling for a May bond election that will cover crucial repairs to the dilapidated street.
The association members said they feel the street has been in disrepair for too long.
"It is the association's belief that 34th street, while historically has supported the growth and economic growth of the City of Lubbock, has received little attention to its upkeep over the past 50 years," said Andy Turner of the 34th Street Association.
Councilman Todd Klein has shown open support for a 34th Street bond, but other council members have shyed away because of the current economic situation.
The association said many council members made 34th Street repair a part of their platform when they ran for election.
More than 600 small businesses are located on 34th Street.
