The Texas Board of Education is debating what should be taught to students regarding the theory of evolution. The debate centers around keeping a phrase in the science curriculum involving teaching the 'strengths and weaknesses' of scientific theories, including evolution.

Some who want to remove the phrase, say that teaching the weaknesses of the theory of evolution will open the door for creationism to be taught in public schools. On Thursday, we spoke with area science teachers about their views.

Says Michelle Baxter of Trinity Christian School, "We absolutely have to stare right in the face of our weaknesses, and that's how we get new information, and if we cut that off, then we're not doing science anymore." LISD Science Coordinator Gary Fortenberry says, "I did want my students to be able to see everything out there and then for them to be thinkers and then for them to make their own decisions."
