Thanks to free pet adoptions at the Lubbock Animal Shelter, more than a dozen dogs and cats are resting in new homes now. Saturday was National Pet Adoption Day across the country. Here in the Hub, it was Hill's Pet Nutrition paying adoption fees for the first ten pets picked up from the shelter Saturday. Animal Services picked up the tab for every other family that came out to find a new pet. Animal Services wanted to make sure everyone that met the basic requirements for adopting Saturday could take a dog or cat home, and save a life.
"Shelter dogs are so grateful. They have been in there, they've just been on those concrete floors, they haven't had a lot of social interaction. People come, people go. Dogs come and go, and they are so grateful when they finally get another home," says Shari Cobb, who adopted her own dog Saturday.
The shelter's regular pet adoption fee is just sixty dollars.
