Animal Abuse

Lubbock Animal Services along with Lubbock Police are investigating a case of animal abuse in East Lubbock.
Wednesday night, three pit bulls were found in a small fenced in area in the backyard of 3405 E. 17th Street.
A neighbor had called the City of Lubbock and informed them that one of the dogs had died after being starved to death and the other two were eating the body in a last ditch effort to survive.
Animal Services found the dogs and confirmed that one had been half-eaten.
The two remaining dogs are now in the care of a local vet and are being treated for starvation.
Both pit bulls are said to not be aggressive and that their eating of the other dog was an act of survival.
Both will be turned over to a rescue service so that they can be adopted by a caring family.
The owners of the pit bulls, who have not been identified, could be facing felony charges for animal cruelty.
The case will be handed over the to the Lubbock District Attorney's Office later this week.
