In the spirit of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, ABC is launching a new contest. They're handing out over a million dollars nationwide to deserving people who are helping out in their communities.
The contest is called Extreme Makeover: American Dream Edition. ABC wants to find someone on the South Plains who best exemplifies the spirit of giving back in their community, despite personal hardship.
On Thursday, we spoke with single mom Monique Murry, of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The first one in her family to graduate high school, she's now on her way to a Masters at Tech, all the while juggling work, 3 kids, and a little sister of her own, "Yes, sometimes it is too much, but you just have to think, 'I don't want to give up, I don't want to fail this kid, I don't want to fail my children, and I don't want to fail myself,' so I just have to persevere."
ABC will award the local winner $5,000, but the organization they help will also receive $5,000. To enter someone you know in the contest, just go to everything lubbock.com and click on the Extreme Makeover: American Dream icon. The contest ends Monday, February 23rd.
