From a national perspective, this way-too public debate over a contract has not done much good for the football program or the school.

Mike Leach appeared on ESPN Wednesday, telling his side of the story and with Tech coming off one of its best football seasons, Coach Leach has a lot of supporters.

Even some of Leach's former players say keeping Leach is the right call.

"It's just a sad deal for Texas Tech, that all the positive attention that Coach Leach and his program earned throughout the course of this season, is now gone," former Tech Quarterback under Leach, Sonny Cumbie says.

Cumbie says Tech Football is in a better place now than before Leach took over.
