Donkeys are not known for being man's best friend, but a Hockley County family is thanking their lucky stars for one special little animal. Cynthia McCoy says Minnie the donkey was acting extremely agitated on Tuesday night, refusing to come inside to be fed. She kept pacing and looking out toward the McCoy's west field.

Cynthia decided to take a look, and that's when she spotted the out of control fire, rapidly spreading toward her home. Smyer and Levelland fire departments responded immediately, and Cynthia and her son alerted their neighbors to the blaze.

Says McCoy, "Since we have bought her, she has been our little watchdog out here, and its amazing what animals can do. I do thank her that she was diligent, and that she was insistent to let me know that there was something wrong."
