Should school districts drug test teachers?

That may no longer be a question, if a new bill in Austin becomes law.

The proposed bill would require any teacher that applies for a job, at any Texas Public School, to take a drug test as part of the hiring process.

Existing teachers would be subject to random drug tests.

If the bill becomes law, it will likely go into effect later this year.

LISD Superintendent Wayne Havens says he supports the bill.

"When you're living as we do, in today's time, I think that anything that we can do to protect the safety of our students needs to be done," Havens says.

He says if the bill passes, he's concerned how districts will fund teacher drug tests.
