Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Graham Harrell threw four touchdowns and ran for one as Texas Tech crushed SMU, 49-9, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Harrell finished the game 44-for-59 with 419 yards while Michael Crabtree had 12 catches for 106 yards and three touchdowns for the Red Raiders (1-0). Shannon Woods had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win.
Justin Willis was 15-for-33 for 138 yards and a pair of interceptions while Thomas Morstead connected on three field goals for the Mustangs (0-1). Willis also produced 40 yards on the ground in 14 attempts.
The Red Raiders took a 7-0 lead on their first drive of the game as Harrell punched the ball in from one yard out, but the Mustangs responded on their ensuing possession with a 36-yard field goal from Morstead.
Less than a minute into the second quarter, Harrell hit Danny Amendola with a pass in the flat and he raced it into the end zone on a 49-yard catch-and-run for a 14-3 lead.
A Morstead 35-yard field goal with just under six minutes left in the first half briefly made it an eight-point game, but Harrell hit Crabtree in the end zone from one yard out with just two seconds to play and Texas Tech took a 21-6 lead into the locker room.
A pair of touchdown receptions for Crabtree, one for 42 yards and the second one for two yards, in the third quarter boosted Texas Tech's lead to 35-6.
Woods' two-yard touchdown run with 12:24 left in the fourth gave the Red Raiders a 42-6 lead and, after Morstead's 37-yard field goal a little over two minutes later, Woods' five-yard touchdown run accounted for the final score of the game.
