Five people are dead after a violent car wreck just west of Lubbock County.
It happened around 4:30 this afternoon at the intersection of FM 1770 and County Road 1700. DPS officials tell us the driver of a blue SUV was driving on CR 1700 when he failed to yield to a stop sign at that intersection. The SUV crashed into a white car holding 6 passengers. Two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the white car and the driver of the SUV were both airlifted to the hospital. The other five victims were pronounced dead on the scene. DPS officials tell us three of the victims were children. A dog was also killed in the crash.
DPS officials tell us this isn't the first time a serious accident has happened at that intersection, but this is the largest loss of life they've ever seen.
