Friday's car accident that killed six in Lubbock County is an awful reminder to be cautious on the roads.

A family of five in one car and the driver of another car were all killed Friday at the intersection of CR 1700 and FM 2641.

It's only a two-way stop there, but County Commissioner Patti Jones says it could be months before any changes are made to that intersection, if any at all.

TxDot is responsible for studying the intersections to see if changes to traffic signs should be made.

In the meantime, DPS officials are reminding drivers to pay attention and obey the stop signs that are already there.

"Unfortunately, people think there's not a lot of traffic here and why should we stop. Because of the instances that we have, that have happened and may happen again," Corporal John Gonzalez says.

A petition is circulating to make that crash intersection a four-way stop with flashing lights.

TxDot workers are also placing traffic counters there to monitor traffic flow.
