An overnight accident leaves an Oklahoma couple dead after an SUV struck the motorcycle they were riding.

It happened around 2:30 Wednesday morning at 19th and University.

A motorcycle was traveling south on University, when an SUV heading west on 19th, ran a red light and hit the motorcycle.

The male driver of the motorcycle, 27 year old Dwight David Griffith, was pronounced dead on the scene.

His wife, 23 year old Tricia Charlene Griffith, was the female passenger.

She was rushed to UMC where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The couple was from Duncan, Oklahoma, here in Lubbock visiting family.

The woman driving the SUV was 45-year-old Jeanne Perez.

She was taken to Covenant Hospital with minor injuries.

A pick-up was also hit by the SUV during the collision.

The passengers in that truck weren't injured.

Police say they do suspect the driver of that SUV had been drinking.

"The motorcycle, as far as we can tell, didn't do anything illegal at all, was facing a red light that turned green and proceeded into the intersection and the SUV was then facing a red light and failed to stop," Lt. Neal Barron says.
