A 45-year-old Lubbock woman is facing felony charges of intoxicated manslaughter tonight, after police say she drove drunk Tuesday night and killed two people riding on a motorcycle.
The intersection at 19th and University is where police say a Lubbock woman ran a red light and smashed into a motorcycle carrying a young married couple from Oklahoma,  Police say the driver who caused the crash is suspected of driving drunk. KAMC 28 got an exclusive look as officials walked 45-year-old Jeanne Perez into the Lubbock county jail around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon. Police say around 2:30 in the morning she was driving her SUV west on 19th, when she ignored a red light and smashed into a motorcycle headed southbound on University. The driver of the bike 27-year-old Dwight David Griffith was pronounced dead on the scene.  His wife and passenger 23-year-old Tricia Griffith died at UMC. Perez suffered minor injuries and was taken to Covenant.  Court papers say she fought officers and medical personnel as they tried to take a blood sample so, they had to hold her down. The officer at the hospital says she did admit to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel. Again, Jeanne Perez is facing two counts of intoxicated manslaughter in this case. If convicted of the charges, she faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.  Her bond has been set at $180,000.
