A Lubbock police officer was arrested for allegedly driving drunk over the weekend. When police came to the 6500 block of the frontage road on I27, it was to look into a one-vehicle accident involving a black Ford pickup that had struck a guardrail. Once they got there though, they realized the driver was one of their own, and the wreck was the result of him drinking and driving. The driver was identified as Lubbock police officer Michael Furlow. He was arrested on the scene for a DWI and taken to Lubbock County Jail. Fortunately, no one was injured and no one else was inolved in the accident. Furlow is currently on paid administrative leave. The Chief of Police ordered an internal affairs investigation Monday. We tried speaking with officials about this, but it's against that investigation. Now -- we spoke with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, they say it's just another example that misjudgment could happen to anyone. Dawn Owens, Victims Advocate, MADD: "He is a role model for the citizens of Lubbock, being a police officer. It's just a good example of how things can get away from you. So, you know, you need to make a plan before you start drinking at all. Anyone is capable of getting a DWI." Now a DWI is a Class B misdeamonor, so once the Internal Affairs Investigation is over, Officer Furlow could lose his license as an office.
