Law enforcement throughout Texas is cracking down on the use of fake ID's.

Local TABC officials say they're staying on top of the problem.  Lieutenant Brian Williams with TABC says fake ID's are mainly a problem when a new school semester starts at Texas Tech.  He says they often do stings like 'Operation Fake-Out' at local bars to catch minors using them and to catch bartenders serving minors.  Williams says the fakes get better and better and easier to obtain.  With the Lubbock alcohol vote about a month away, we wanted to know if this problem will get even worse.

"The same people who have them now will try and use them at the corner convenience store instead of going out to the strip.  We've seen it statewide...more of our offices around the state are doing operation fake out more frequently.  They're catching quite a few fake ID's in the larger metropolitan areas."

Using a fake ID is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable with up to one year in jail and a $4 thousand dollar fine.
