A woman is recovering Wednesday night after driving her car into a playa lake in South Lubbock. First responders were called out to the playa lake at Guy Park at about 10:30 Wednesday morning where they found an SUV almost fully submerged with a woman at the wheel. When first responders got there, they realized they had seconds before the car sunk completely into the cold water, so instead of waiting for a scuba crew, they went out themselves to rescue the woman inside the car. Hospital officals can't tell us why this happened, and cannot talk about the woman's condition, but witnesses say she was driving the car normally one minute, and then all of the sudden very erratically. One of the first responders who pulled the woman out of the car says accidents and rescues like this one are very rare.

"It feels good to know that I've been equipped with the things that I have to do my job. The training I have, the continuous training I go through along with fire, EMS, and police working together to accomplish this, and it makes it feel good when you know that all the systems work together to make it work," says paramedic Chad Curry.

The woman was taken to UMC, but officials are not releasing her current condition.
