The Lubbock City Council has picked a location for the new animal shelter and it's not far from where it is now.

The council voted 5-2 to place the shelter at McKenzie Park where the swimming pools were once located.

The location of the shelter has been a topic of debate for several years.

The City Manager's Office has stated that after an archeological survey is done, construciton could begin in 6 to 8 months, but the project will take several phases due to costs.
