Severe Weather Season Just Beginning

The severe weather excitement from Thursday night has died down, but the severe weather season is just beginning.
The National Weather Service is busy today analyzing yesterday's storms. Meteorologists there tell us they've confirmed at least 5 tornadoes in the South and Rolling Plains Thursday. A busy night -- with around 50 warnings issued in just ten hours.
Now if you were out and about yesterday, you know the weather truly was severe -- but it's still early in the season. So folks at NWS say for next time -- if you don't already -- make sure you have a plan of action. That means know where to go -- basement, bathtub -- anywhere that puts as many walls between you and the storm as you can.
Justin Weaver, NWS Meteorologist: "On average, we have more tornadoes here than anywhere else in the world. We've still got another month or so to go before we even get into that part of the season. This should have been a good wake up call to everybody that it's that time of year, to be prepared, for when that severe weather happens again."
Weaver says the really busy time during severe weather season for us here in Lubbock starts around May 15th and ends in early June.
