Bill Would Seal Teacher Criminal Records

Legislation backed by Texas teachers is raising some eyebrows.
A bill that would seal school workers' criminal records is being considered by the Texas House and that includes the criminal records of teachers.
That means you wouldn't be able to find out if your child's teacher has a criminal history.
The president of the Lubbock Educators Association is backing the bill.
He says it's simply maintaining teacher privacy.
"This is just another added step to make sure that if something is found that the school district can take care of it with that employee by getting rid of them or getting corrective action taken, rather than being exploited on t.v.. We don't want anybody to get a bad reputation for something that they may have done 20 years ago," President of LEA, Clinton Gill says.
Lubbock ISD requires annual background checks on all district employees.
