Mothers Against Drunk Driving is reaching out to family and friends of the Lubbock County deputy killed in the line of duty this weekend. Lubbock's MADD chapter wants Corporal D. Robert Harvey's loved ones to know, they provide a number of services - like emotional support, books on grief and referrals for counseling. The Lubbock County sheriff's officer and father of two, died early Sunday morning, when his patrol car was hit head-on by suspected drunk driver Justin McKinney. McKinney remains in the Lubbock County jail on intoxicated manslaughter charges.
"It's just a tragic, horrible loss when anyone is killed by an alcohol related incident, but it's definitely sad - a father has lost his life, someone who helps the public," says MADD Victim Advocate Dawn Owens.
MADD only assists victims' loved ones, but does believe a fatal crash where alcohol is involved can be traumatic for the families of both the victim and the offender.
