Hundreds gathered at the First Baptist Church on Broadway today to pay their final respects to Cpl. D. Robert Harvey, a man who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Cpl. Harvey was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver early Sunday morning out in Southeast Lubbock County.  On Wednesday, family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers from across the state came to Lubbock to remember who Cpl. Harvey was and show their gratitude for his service and sacrifice.
The service started with a Lubbock Sheriff's Deputy laying Cpl. Harvey's helmet on his casket, followed by eulogies from a pastor and Sheriff David Gutierrez.  Both men talked about what amazing man Harvey was in both his personal and professional life.  Cpl. Harvey joined the Lubbock Sheriff's Office in 2001, was promoted to corporal in detention in 2004, and then to corporal in patrol just two years later.  He was a member of the Honor Guard and Tactical Team and received numerous commendations during his seven year career.
At home, Harvey was a loving husband to his wife, Stacy, and a caring father to his sons, Austin and J.D.  Many who knew Harvey personally say he was the type of man who always put others before himself and that's why being in law enforcement was perfect for him.
The service at First Baptist Church was followed by his burial at Resthaven Cemetery.  If you're interested in helping Cpl. Harvey's family during this difficult time, you can make donations to the Cpl. D. Harvey Memorial Fund at any City Bank location.
