Folks just a few counties Northeast of Lubbock are busy cleaning up today after last night's severe storms caused some damage. Up in Floyd County, a tornado touched down near Cedar Hill tearing down several power lines and utility poles along the way. Over in Cottle County, Strong straight line winds picked up a carport and dropped it several feet away at a woman's home in Paducah. The winds also ripped part of the roof off a nearby business and uprooted several trees. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the storms.
Justin Weaver with the National Weather Service says, "It takes the National Weather Service, local media, and the Emergency Management community, and the public knowing what to do when they're warned to protect them from severe weather."
Officials with the NWS remind folks this is just the beginning of severe weather season. The peak time for tornadoes is the last week of May through the first week of June.
