(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Rangers shortstop Michael Young tripled in two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lift the American League to a 3-2 win over the National League in the 77th All-Star Game at PNC Park. The Senior Circuit was one out away from its first win in the Mid-Summer Classic since 1996 when Paul Konerko singled, Troy Glaus doubled and Young tripled to give the AL the lead. Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera got the final three outs to record the save as the Junior Circuit improved to 9-0-and-1 in the last 10 All-Star Games. Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero homered off starter Brad Penny in the second to stake the AL to a 1-0 lead. Mets third baseman David Wright tied it for the NL with a home run in the bottom half off starter Kenny Rogers. Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran stole third and scored on a Roy Halladay wild pitch to give the NL a 2-1 lead in the third. Blue Jays reliever B.J. Ryan got credit for the win, while Padres pitcher Trevor Hoffman gave up both runs in the ninth to take the loss. Young earned MVP honors and home-field advantage for the AL in the World Series.
