City council set a date to look into raises for Lubbock's police force. In front of more than a hundred officers, the council approved an amended resolution saying they'll look into pay raises when they work on next year's budget. They'll begin crunching numbers for the city's budget at the end of the month, and Councilmember Linda DeLeon hopes officers will see a raise in pay within a few months. "We just need more recruits because they are jeopardizing their lives now - today more because of the lack of staff that we have and it's just gonna get worse unless the council address it," says DeLeon.
Police believe their department is headed in the wrong direction, and the sooner they can recruit men and women to fill the spaces of retiring officers, the better.
