Hockley County officials were busy Thursday afternoon, after arresting a man apparently behind an attempted murder scheme.

32-year-old Jason Sanders remains at the Hockley County Jail Thursday after he was arrested today for attempted solicitation of capital murder.

The potential victim, his estranged wife.

Kevin Davis, Investigator, Hockley County DA: "Apparently, he had been going through a very tumultous divorce. A long, drawn-out, ugly divorce."

A divorce that apparently led 32-year-old Jason Sanders of Littlefield to hatch a plan to kill his wife.

Levelland Police were tipped off earlier this week by someone who knew Sanders. That informant told investigators Sanders was trying to get a hold of a bomb to either plant or have planted into his wife's vehicle.

Levelland police, along with the Lubbock Sheriff's Office, constructed a decoy.

Davis: "What we would do is build an inert pipe bomb, a dummy, and then have that dummy pipe bomb delivered to the suspect at his request."

Once the decoy was delivered, ATF, Levelland PD, and the Hockley County DA's office made the arrest around 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

"He was caught off guard for sure. I don't think he had any idea that this was part of a sting operation at all."

Sanders is being held in Hockley County on a $200,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to 99 years in prison.
