With temperatures on the rise, more snakes are looking for shady cool places to roam, and that means more chances to encounter some of these deadly reptiles. ER doctor Joe Sasin says that if you are bitten by a snake, your best bet is to stay still, elevate the affected part to the level of the heart and call 911 immediately. He says there are also some common myths one shouldn't follow.

"Tourniquets are a no no, so you don't apply a tourniquet and you certainly don't make any incision or cuts and try to suck the venom out."

For venomous bites you should get help immediately. The first four to six hours are critical for recovery.
