The US Supreme Court made a decision today that will likely effect school children right here in Lubbock.

The decision deals with 4th amendment rights; specifically, whether or not school officials can strip search a student when he or she is suspected of possessing illegal items.

In an 8-1 decision, the court ruled that school officials may not force a student to remove his or her clothes even when searching for illegal items.

The decision came after an Arizona female student was searched for prescription pills in 2003.  No pills were found but the girl, then 13-year-old Savana Redding, was humiliated.

Six years later she is living in Hobbs, New Mexico.  She says she feels vindicated and that she is ready to move on.

"It's been a long time, and I'm glad that its almost finally over, and I can just continue on with my life and try to get somewhere" Redding said.
