Texas game wardens monitor places like Buffalo Springs Lake to ensure that boaters, skiiers and swimmers are safe. Their routine stops include checking for life jackets, registration, fire extinguishers, working horns, and most importantly, drivers who are not intoxicated.
Warden Don Taylor says that while the safety checks might seem bothersome to some boaters, they can make all the difference. "A lot of the people get a little upset with us for doing all of these checks, but it's for their safety, and its in their best interest."
If a game warden suspects that a person is intoxicated while operating a boat, he or she will be subject to a series of sobriety tests and can be arrested and jailed just as if he or she were driving a car.
