The West Texas Music Festival is being left off Lubbock's September calendar.

Why?

Lubbock's City Council voted last year not to pay for the festival with money from the city budget.

The music festival had been paid for with hotel and motel taxes, but with that gone, funding for the show was hard to come by in a tough economy.

Councilwoman Linda Deleon voted against the budget last year, in part, she says, because money for the music festival was not included.

"We have got to be more involved as citizens to say this was a good thing and it should have never been taken out of the funding cycle and that some tough questions need to be asked by our taxpayers. It was hotel money and this event brought millions of dollars to the economy of Lubbock, Texas," Councilwoman Linda Deleon says.

Deleon says funding for the music festival has also been left off next year's budget.
