Tonight the President once again pitches his plan for health care reform to the American people. President Obama proposes increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans, starting with those making $350,000 dollars a year or more. The plan also allows those with health care insurance to keep their plans, while those without would shift to the government-run system. Some local leaders say the reform is a long-time coming, while others say the President may be moving too fast. Pamela Brink of the Lubbock Democratic Party says "we've been waiting 50 years for some kind of sensible health care plan....this is the only sophisticated nation in the world without some kind of assumption that health care is a basic right, not just a privilege." Eddie McBride president of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce says "we just don't know what the hurry is to get this done so quickly, we applaud the Presidents approach to getting something fixed, but not in the manner that they're pushing it through." The President will address the nation in a prime time speech right here on KAMC 28 beginning at 7 o'clock pm.
