New businesses are still popping up here in the Hub City despite the national downturn in the economy. For the past couple of years Americans have seen and felt the downward spiral of the economy, but here in Lubbock, experts say our local economy is actually doing well. Jennifer Lin, a native New Yorker, saw the growth in Lubbock and just opened her 2nd restaurant, 'Hiyashi Hibachi' here in Southwest Lubbock. Gary Lawrence of the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance says as our city grows, so does our economy. He says "because we passed 200-thousand in population, that lit up radar screens all over the country. One of our greatest attributes, is that we don't have a boom and bust here, we have a continuous steady growth and if you're in business or you're gonna bring a business here that's very attractive because you don't wanna come and have a bust and then you grow broke with it" Lin also owns Lin's buffet and says she is planning on opening a third restaurant in Lubbock this fall.
