County Commissioners Will Not Raise Own Pay

Lubbock County Commissioners say they will forego a pay raise this year that would allow them to keep up with the cost of living.
That pay increase would cost more than $1 Million, and commissioners say that money just isn't in the budget.
Each year county commissioners review the cost of living and recommend a pay raise to keep up with inflation.
This year, salaries would have been raised by 3.9% to a little over $58,000 per year, but commissioner Patti Jones says foregoing that increase will help keep taxes where they are.
"We realize that this is not the year to do anything -- do any kind of increases on property taxes, income, anything like that. That's the common word around here is to keep everything flat," Jones said. The full Lubbock County budget is expected to be approved on September 14.
