Robertson Gets Tech Past Texas

By Jay Langley - Special to KAMC. (Lubbock)- Texas Tech Lady Raider coach Kristy Curry will take a win any way she can get it. "Ugly counts," Curry said after her teams 49-48 win over No. 24 Texas Saturday at the United Spirit Arena. Tech (13-8, 4-3 in Big 12) shot a season low 26 percent from the floor in the win but converted 11 of 15 from the free-throw line. "Its an ugly win but well certainly take it," said Curry. "I think you have to give Texas a lot of credit for it being ugly and us really struggling from the field." Texas (14-7, 4-3 in Big 12) controlled most of the game holding a seven point lead with 1:59 to play. But Tech senior Alesha Robertson scored six points in the last two minutes including a game winning 3-pointer with just four seconds remaining. "When I shot it I thought there was less time than there was," Robertson said of the game winner. "When I shot it and made it I was jumping up and down and I looked up there and I was like ‘Oh lord, we have four seconds. And Texas can do something in four seconds." Robertson said despite her shooting woes she was confident taking the last shot. "Really I had a rough night tonight," the senior forward said, "but I thought that was the least I could do for my team was knock that shot down." Curry said when the ball found Robertson she knew what the result would be. "It was going down, I could tell the minute she let it go," Curry said. "Finally it was us that hit the three at the end." In facing All-Conference forward Jackson, Techs Erin Myrick led the Lady Raiders with 18 points and 12 rebounds. "I so happy for Erin Myrick because every one has been so critical, so hard on her, so down on her," Curry said. "And the bottom line is theres not one of these kids waking up every day not wanting to do well. So I was just so excited for her." The Lady Raiders next travel to Kansas Wednesday to face the Jayhawks for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
