Christopher Paul Martinez is now behind bars in Brownfield. Police arrested him on thursday on charges of aggravated assault.
They say he was also present when Pete Martinez, Jr. was fatally shot on July 19th. The two Martinezes are unrelated.
Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez says the investigation is still ongoing.
"We still have an ongoing investigation. We're accounting for everyone that was present at the time on the property at the time of the shooting. We are not releasing all of the information until we get further into--- we do have some good leads as to the potential shooter at this time," Serbantez said.
Chris Martinez has not been charged with any crime in relation to the death of Pete Martinez, Jr, but police say he was one of the seven people who confronted Pete Martinez, Jr. in front of his home at the corner of A and Felt in east Brownfield.
They say Chris Martinez is still a person of interest, and they hope to have a murder charge out in the very near future.
Pete Martinez, Sr. says it's been quiet around the house without his son. He says for his son's sake, he just hopes it all goes away soon.
"I know that if he were here today then he would want all of us to move forward, and that's what we're doing here," Martinez, Sr. said.
