Folks in Hockley County are dealing with changes within its Sheriff's Office and for the first time since being removed from office, former Sheriff David Kinney tells us he will fight the accusations made against him.

Hockley County Attorney Christopher Dennis filed a civil lawsuit against former Sheriff Kinney for alleged corrupt practice last Thursday.

Monday, Kinney apologized to the citizens of Hockley County for the wrong doing of his deputies, but he made it clear, he was not taking responsibility for their actions.

Kinney pointed to his several accomplishments as Sheriff, highlighting the drug awareness program he initiated in schools, as well as the crime watch program in Hockley County.

In response to the facts for removal listed in the petition filed against him, Kinney says it is full of half truths and not based on facts.

"This restraining order is not based on facts, it is based on what Attorney Dennis and Investigator Davis wanted a judge and the citizens to believe. This petition that was filed by Attorney Dennis said that if I was not restrained, I would do damage to the citizens of Hockley County, these same citizens that had voted me in to office less than a year ago with about an 85% margin," David Kinney says.
