Lubbock ISD to Offer Bible Class

Lubbock public schools may soon be offering Bible classes.
The Texas legislature passed a law in 2007 which allows schools to offer a course on the Bible and its historical and literary impact. As of this school year, district leaders have the option to offer this Bible study as an elective or integrate it into other courses.
Folks at Lubbock ISD are looking at the elective option.
"I think in our community it could very possibly go over very well," said Dr. Kelly Trlica, Chief Academic Officer for Lubbock ISD.
"So we are going to look at the very small number of school districts who have been teaching it, and we're going to look at text books, and we're going to hopefully write our own course that will be unique to Lubbock but yet falls within state guidelines."
Dr. Trlica says the class will be as neutral in nature as possible and says the class will be taught from a text book, not directly from the Bible.
