Four people at the Lubbock Health Department are now without jobs all because of a smaller budget this new fiscal year.

In all, the Lubbock Health Department lost funding for eight jobs. The city did assign new roles to four other employees, but they're still left without an STD Disease and Intervention Specialist. The Health Department says that position will be filled by the state and with Lubbock having one of the highest STD rates in the nation, the department director says it's important for them to keep a continuity of services.

"The state is very competent. They already do some of that and so I think they're gonna be able to take that over and we won't see any kind of a decrease in services," says Public Health Manager Bridget Faulkenberry.

The Lubbock Health Department is working now to make the turnover a seamless transition with the State Health Department.
