Tech Now Closer to Tier One Status

Tier One status for Texas Tech may be one step closer to reality. Tech will get close to $50 million in the next two years - all to boost the university's research funds. They've already received about $24 million in gifts and donations, and through the Texas Research Incentive Program the state will match that with another $21.5 million. Out of the seven universities that qualified to be part of this research incentive program, Tech raised the most money. All those funds will go toward professorships, facilities and research equipment.
"If you go to teaching - day to day teaching - I would put Texas Tech up against any other school in the state or in the nation. But where we're lagging on the Tier One status is the additional research funds," says Chancellor Kent Hance.
Chancellor Hance believes these funds will give them a huge advantage in achieving Tier One status.
