Most drivers know to be extra careful around a school bus, but sadly not everyone pays attention.
A dangerous situation has Lubbock school officials stressing bus safety.
Tuesday, a student at Dunbar Middle School fell victim to a wreckless driver when he was getting off the school bus.
According to police reports, a woman was driving south on Avenue L between two LISD school buses.
The second bus stopped and turned on its flashing lights and stop arm.
That's when 6th grader, Elisha Juarez, got off the bus and crossed in front of it.
The driver of the car disregarded the bus stop lights and hit the young boy.
Luckily, he suffered only minor injuries, but this accident is now highlighting bus safety.
"You have to pay attention, you can't be texting, you can't be talking on the phone, you can't be day dreaming. There are children involved here. One of these days, if this continues to happen and people don't pay attention, someone's going to get killed," Juarez's bus driver, John Jordon says.
