The man accused of killing a retired Air Force colonel at his Southwest Lubbock home pleads guilty to capital murder.

Police say 27 year-old Alonzo Lewis robbed, then stabbed to death Don McCullough back in July 2007. They say McCullough and his wife had parked in their garage after running errands late in the afternoon. McCullough saw Lewis walking down the street, offered him some water and a short time later police tell us Lewis returned to McCullough's garage, attempted to rob him, and then stabbed him more than thirty times. Jury selection in Lewis's capital murder trial was scheduled to begin Wednesday, but late this afternoon he pleaded guilty in exchange for life in prison. He was facing the death penalty.

Sentencing begins Thursday morning.
