LUBBOCK - The South Plains College men`s track team won the NJCAA
National Indoor Track and Field championship Saturday.
South Plains finished with 148.5 points, easily outdistancing second-
place Rend Lake College, who had 72 points. Johnson County was third
with 68.5 and Cloud County was fourth with 60.
SPC`s John Kosgei won three national championships. He finished first
in the men`s one mile run with a time of 4:10.35, he finished first
in the men`s 3000 meter run with a time of 8:23.73, he finished first
in the men`s 5000 meter run with a time of 14:37.46.
Also winning individual national titles for SPC were Patrick Lee in
the men`s 60 meter hurdles (7.94 seconds), Derrick Taylor in the
men`s pole vault (15 feet, 1 1/2 inches), Derrick Reescano in the
men`s triple jump (49 feet, 10 inches) and Tyler Menges in the men`s
shot put (53 feet, 1 3/4 inches).
The South Plains College Lady Texans finished second behind Essex
College. The Lady Texans did win several national individual titles.
Asiya Iskakova finished first in the women`s penathlon with 3562
points. Dominique Jacobs was first in the women`s long jump (19 feet,
7 inches).
