Several state and local law enforcement agencies conducted a sex offender sweep in Lubbock County, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The two day operation checked over 300 registered offenders.
As of 6:00 Wednesday evening, a majority of the 321 registered sex offenders that live in Lubbock County had been located and verified to be in compliance with the state and federal sex offender laws.
Ten sex offenders were arrested for various crimes, including failure to register.
Lubbock Police say eight offenders have intentionally gone into hiding to avoid arrest.
"The offenders not located during the sweep will be investigated and could be charged with a felony offense if their registration information is not correct," Lubbock Police Lt. Neal Barron says.
Police stress the importance of these operations, citing the horrific case of Jaycee Duggard in California as an example of what could happen if these sweeps are not police priority.
