New Animal Shelter On Its Way

By: Lauren Murphy
Updated: November 9, 2007

This week was National Animal Services Appreciation week.

After the mayor thanked all the employees, the talk quickly turned to the much anticipated new animal shelter, and no one is more excited than the twenty-three employees.

"Parts of the building are sinking. I mean we need a new one," said Laura Forsythe, an employee.

This building was built in the 1950's and now has ventilation problems which often make the animals sick.

A few years ago the city council granted 3.5 million dollars to build the new shelter.

They hope to break ground early next year over near Milwaukee and the Marsha Sharp Freeway, a much more appealing location.

"A lot of people don't like to come here because of lack of appeal of the building," said Forsythe.
