Alcohol Prices Same Throughout Hub

Even though alcohol is now available across Lubbock, don't expect beer and wine prices to make a dramatic drop anytime soon.
Store owners tell us they plan to keep prices competitive, but you won't see a dramatic decline in costs in the city, as compared to the Strip. That's because city stores use the same distributors, and will have to pay more for the distribution services starting the first of October. Folks with the group Lubbock County Wins are optimistic prices will still be lower than what we've paid in the past.
"People are going to want to compete for our dollars and now instead of two people or two companies selling all the alcohol there's going to be 80 businesses. So you would have to think that competition is going to increase,' says Melissa Pierce with Lubbock County Wins.
Our price checks on beer and wine at city stores find costs an average of 50 cents less than those at the Strip.
